PROJECT UPDATE: The project team has completed the alternatives analysis and first round of public engagement, and we are ready to share the staff recommendation for the Preferred Alternative — the proposed route and facility types for the Greenway — with the public and the Proposition 407 Bond Oversight Commission. You can find more information about the Preferred Alternative on the project website, or attend one of three upcoming meeting to learn more:
Tuesday, February 24th from 5:30 – 6:30 PM
- Freedom Park Center | 5000 E 29th St
Thursday, February 26th from 5:30 – 6:30 PM
- Ward 6 Office | 3202 E 1st St
Wednesday, March 4th from 5:30 – 6:30 PM
- Ward 2 Office | 7820 E Broadway Blvd
The project team has carefully considered all of the comments we received. We also completed a detailed opportunities and constraints analysis of each alternative route presented at the public meetings and shown on the interactive map hosted on the project website last Fall. Based on the results of the alternatives analysis and what we heard from the public, the Preferred Alternative for Proposition 407 Bond Oversight Commission consideration includes the following proposed segments:
- From Glenn St at The Loop’s Pantano River Park trailhead to Broadway Blvd: A low-stress, on-street bicycle facility along Sahuara Ave and Chantilly Dr with push-button crossings at all major intersections (this segment is technically part of a separate project called the Sahuara Bicycle Boulevard, and will provide a connection from the Alamo Wash Greenway to The Loop as envisioned by the Proposition 407 project)
- From Broadway Blvd to Stella Rd: A 10′ wide asphalt shared-use path along the edge of Loma Verde Park and following the southern/western side of the Alamo Wash
- From Stella Rd to Aviation Bikeway: A low-stress, on-street bicycle facility along Jessica Ave
The segment shown in Proposition 407 voter materials from The Loop at Rillito River Park to Glenn St at Sahuara/The Loop’s Pantano River Park trailhead is not included as part of the Preferred Alternative.
The staff recommendation will be presented to the Proposition 407 Bond Oversight Commission who are the ultimate decision makers for all changes to Prop 407-funded projects. Visit the “Upcoming Events” section on the Alamo Wash Greenway project website for more information on the BOC meetings including dates, where to attend, and actions that the BOC will be taking.
