    • Newsletter: No date was set for release of the next newsletter. The Board agreed to wait until more content develops.
    • Report on Meeting with Ward 6: Robin Steinberg reported that Karen Ulich’s Ward 6 office did not respond to our invitation to meet and discuss ways to mitigate the negative impact Love Cabaret is having on neighborhood safety. Robin will follow up in person at the Ward 6 office.
    • Safe Streets MiniGrant Program: Ali Bickford reported that the City received our grant application.
    • Tree Planting: Ali Bickford observed that several neighbors took advantage of Tucson Clean and Beautiful’s free tree planting program.
    • Proposed Watershed Park: The large piles of concrete debris have been removed from the site. Ali will email Tucson Clean and Beautiful for a status update.
  •  Restrictive Covenants: Harold Hallikainen further researched the process for changing or “opting out” of racist and anti-Semitic neighborhood covenants. Changing these covenants is a complicated process that can’t be completed by the Board. The paperwork must be submitted by individual home/property owners. The Board discussed the possibility of using the next Newsletter to inform neighbors of their options.
  • Discussion: Jennifer Beard reported that she had surveillance cameras installed at her home. The cameras cover the Love Cabaret’s parking lot and provide “snapshots,” including one that shows the parking lot full at 3:00 a.m. Jennifer’s cameras can provide evidence that Love’s stays open after hours.

Mitman BOD meeting with Ward 6 Councillor and TPD Captain Morales

January 30,2025

Several members of the Board met with Ward 6 Councillor Karen Uhlich and TPD Captain Belinda Morales to discuss several crime items. Ms. Uhlich and Capt. Morales will be following up on those issues; and we will all meet again Wednesday, February 26. The Board will provide more information about outcomes after that meeting.

We urge everyone to call 911 when experiencing or witnessing a criminal event. We know it can sometimes be frustrating because the police don’t come promptly, sometimes not at all. TPD is under-staffed and must prioritize.  However, all calls are recorded and data is compiled to determine chronic problems that require investigation.

Use 311 for non-emergency requests to the city and link to https://www.tucsonaz.gov/Residents/311-Service-Request-Portal .

To learn more about how to use the 311 system, attend a Zoom session with City staff. See the invite in “Neighborhood Nuggets.”
