Learn to Ride Sun Tran

Dear neighbors,

I’m a bit of a transportation geek/advocate. When not getting around my bike, I try to use public transportation as much as possible. There are many benefits to public transportation: reduction in the level of toxic pollution, less traffic and the required investment in roads to subsidize single passenger vehicle traffic, and the economic benefit to families not finding it necessary to have a vehicle for every family member.

In my travels, I’ve learned that many people do not know that Sun Tran (the buses) and Sun Link (the streetcar) are free! This has been the case since COVID. Originally, COVID relief funds were use to finance this. Since then, the City has been working to maintain this Zero-Fare scenario. In addition, some folks have never gotten on a bus and feel a bit intimidated at trying it out. To meet this need, Sun Tran gives “lessons.” Here are some upcoming opportunities.

Sun Tran is Back with Learn to Ride Sessions!Kick off the New Year by gaining confidence and learning the ins and outs of riding public transportation! Sun Tran is excited to bring back its in-person Learn to Ride sessions with the first being held on Tuesday, January 21 at 11:30 a.m. at Sun Tran’s Administration Building. Joins us for these upcoming sessions: Each session will take place at Sun Tran’s Administration Building, located at 3910 North Sun Tran Boulevard. For those riding the bus, take Route 10and hop off at the Romero Road/Smoot Drive stop. From there head west on Smoot Drive until you spot the Sun Tran gate.
These interactive sessions are for participants of all ages who want to master public transportation. During these sessions, riders will learn everything from trip planning and reading route schedules to loading their bikes onto the bus. Participants will also get hands-on experience on a bus, making this training even more fun!
Participants can easily reserve their place by emailing SunTranMarketing@tucsonaz.gov or just join us the day of the  training.
For those who prefer learning from home, Sun Tran offers a virtual trainingand a Riding with Us Booklet, available online at Suntran.com.
For additional information or trip planning assistance visit Suntran.com or call Customer Service (520) 792-9222 (TDD: 520-628-1565).
