GSI Grant, Hot Weather, Noise

GSI Grant, Hot Weather, Noise

by Ali Bickford, Mitman NA President

Hello Mitman!

Mitman has been approved for GSI Grant.

Community Design Event for June 13th at 530. Location to be determined.

Friday, some of the Mitman Board members met with Tucson Clean and Beautiful to discuss adding Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) to the Tucson City Water Pump site at 4th and Baker (gravel lot). The project’s goal is to capture stormwater runoff and divert it to water harvesting areas. That will cool neighborhoods, improve air quality, encourage pollinators, and recharge the aquifers.  TCB- Has an amazing vision that seems like it could be pulled from the Desert Museum or Tucson Botanical Garden. At the design meeting we will discuss color palettes, plant sizes that will keep the space visually open and drain patterns for the space.

Ward 6 City Council Seat Vacancy Final Applicants Announced

We received the information below from the Alvernon/Grant Initiative.

WARD 6 CITY COUNCIL SEAT VACANCY FINAL APPLICANTS ANNOUNCED

The Tucson Mayor and Council ranked their top four (4) applicants for the Ward 6 Council seat vacancy caused by the resignation of Council Member Steve Kozachik.

The highest ranked qualified applicants are:

1. Karin Uhlich

2. Ted Prezelski

3. Vince Rabago

4. Pamela Powers

The applicants have been invited to make a presentation during a Special Mayor and Council Meeting, on May 6, 2024, at or after 5:30 PM. The Mayor and Council may adopt an ordinance to appoint one of the individuals to serve the remainder of the term as the Ward 6 Council Member. Many of you may have received an email from a neighborhood advocate, asking you to support a specific candidate. It is not too late:

Even if you have voiced your opinion previously, TODAY is a good time to do so again. Mayor and Council are meeting tonight and may make a final decision as soon as this evening.

You need to submit an email today if there is a candidate you want to support or if you want to express your opinion about what skill set, experience, background, etc. the candidate should have to replace Steve Kozachik. EIGHTEEN months is a long time to serve as our representative on the City Council. We need someone as responsive, actively engaged, knowledgeable about budgets and City operations, and unafraid to ask the hard questions as Steve was.

You can check out the support letters, by clicking on the following link. It is important to have a candidate with skills that can ‘hit the ground running’:
