Prepare for October 19 Meeting
As discussed in our printed October 2024 newsletter, there is a meeting of the general membership of the Mitman Neighborhood Association at 11:00 am on October 19, 2024 in the driveway of 5701 E Hawthorne Street. The “general membership” includes all residences and businesses in the neighborhood including those who have not paid dues (those that pay dues are “Active Members” or “Voting Members”).
According to the current bylaws, voting rights are reserved for “Active Members,” those who have paid dues. Bylaw amendments, however, are to be voted upon by all members (both those paying dues and those not paying dues).
Since the current bylaws call for the election of officers and other board members as the first item on the annual meeting agenda, the agenda is as below:
- Introduction
- Officer and Neighborhood Advisor vote (written ballot of dues paying members only)
- Reports from the board as votes are counted
- Announcement of election results
- Approval of proposed amended bylaws (general membership voice vote)
- Approval of proposed Articles of Incorporation (voting membership voice vote)
- Reports from board and invited guests
- Open discussion
- Adjournment
Officer and Neighborhood Advisor nominations are currently open. If you would like to run for one of these positions, please notify us and send a “candidates statement” as to why you should be elected to info@mitman.org, use the contact form, or mailing to Susan Patania, 5620 E Rosewood St, Tucson AZ 85711. Nominations and candidate statements should arrive before October 15, 2024. On October 15, 2024, these nominations and candidate statements will be posted on mitman.org and emailed to those who have subscribed to the web site.
At the meeting, ballots printed with the nominees will be available to voting (dues paying) members. Nominations will also be accepted at the meeting, and the ballots will have a space to vote for those nominated at the meeting.
Note that the current bylaws call for the election of the officers and board by “Active” (dues paying) members. However, these bylaws do not define the term of membership. The proposed bylaws provide a membership term of November 1 through October 31 of the next year with those paying dues in the last quarter (August, September, October) gaining immediate membership plus membership for the term starting November 1. Printed ballots will be available those who have paid dues in the past year plus those who pay dues (currently $5) the day of the meeting. A printed membership list will be available (and be updated) during the meeting to determine the distribution of ballots.
We look forward to seeing you at the October 19 meeting. Please send nominations with candidate statements as described above. Please send any questions to info@mitman.org, use the contact form.
