Agenda: Mitman NA Board of Directors Meeting, May 1, 2024

The Mitman Neighborhood Board of Directors will meet May 1, 2024 at 7:00pm in the West Meeting room of the Ward 6 office at 3202 East 1st Street, Tucson. Use the South entrance to the building (behind the Ward 6 office). Note that these meetings are open to all neighborhood residents and businesses. The door to the meeting room is locked. We will check it now and then, but if you are stuck waiting outside, call 805 441 2246.

  • Approval of minutes of the April 3 meeting.
  • Treasurer’s Report
    • EIN Progress Report – The IRS requires an organization to be “legally formed” to be issued an EIN.
    • Draft Articles of Incorporation – Discuss and consider adoption at October general meeting. These would be filed with the Arizona Corporations Commission to become a non-profit Arizona Corporation, and with the IRS to receive an EIN and become a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization.
  • Paypal Progress – Requires EIN
  • Bylaws Revision – Review draft incorporating suggestions from Neighborhood Services. Membership section still may need clarification on residents versus property owners. Discussion draft here. Current bylaws here.

Mitman Neighborhood Association Board Meeting Minutes April 3, 2024

Present: Ali Bickford, President, Robin Steinberg, Vice President (telephonically), Susan Patania, Chief Information Officer, Mary Martin, Chief Financial Officer, Harold Hallikainen, Advisor, Jennifer Beard, Advisor.

Approval of Minutes of Board meeting February 7, 2024: Approved    

Treasurer’s Report

Current balance $2,205.56

Harold Hallikainen was reimbursed $173.87 for DreamHost domain registration.

Employer Identification Number (EIN) Progress

Advisor Hallikainen reported that MNA must be a nonprofit corporation registered with the Arizona Corporation Commission to obtain an EIN number and 501(c) (3) status. Articles of Incorporation are filed with the State of Arizona, which has an online form, and the Internal Revenue Service, which has a more comprehensive application process. The Board agreed to place the topic of incorporation on the agenda for the annual meeting in October 2024.

PayPal Progress: Requires EIN.

Bylaws Revision

The City of Tucson suggested minor revisions to the draft Bylaws. The Board agreed with the City’s feedback. Advisor Hallikainen will incorporate the City’s revisions into a final draft to be reviewed at the May meeting.

Safe Streets Mini-Grant Program: The completed application was sent to the City of Tucson. No response has been received to date.

Traffic Circles: All traffic circles are being maintained by neighbors.

Proposed Watershed Park at Baker and Van Buren: Keith submitted the application to Tucson Clean and Beautiful. A response is expected in time for discussion at the May meeting.

Desert Bloom: No change in status since last meeting.

Open Discussion:

Discussion regarding possible native plant distribution by the Tucson Audubon Society. Possibly include this in the October general meeting.

The Board discussed making the fall meeting into more of a social gathering. Discussion included allocating funds for refreshments and having activities for kids, possibly through the City’s “Ready, Set, Rec” program. Food trucks are another possibility.

Hazardous Waste and Paper Shredding Saturday

HHW/SHREDDING EVENT THIS WEEKEND – The City of Tucson’s Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) is hosting its monthly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event this Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m.-noon, at Eastside City Hall, 7820 E. Broadway Blvd. City residents can drop off HHW, electronic waste, paper documents for shredding (limit 3 boxes), recyclables, and glass bottles and jars at no charge. Unknown chemicals will not be accepted. The event is free for City of Tucson residents with proof of address. Residents from Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, and unincorporated Pima County will be charged a $10 fee to drop off materials. EGSD hosts HHW collection events on the second Saturday of each month in different areas across Tucson. Follow the links below for more information.
